Kane County Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan

Bicycles and walking are considered integral parts of the transportation system and can be used in place of automobiles to meet air quality improvement goals. The benefits of bicycling include: enjoyable exercise, economical transportation, ability to choose an alternative transportation mode, independence or mobility for children, and contact with neighbors and the physical environment. Current levels of interest indicate a huge potential to increase bicycling and walking nationwide. With improved conditions and infrastructure, the safety of these activities will also increase.
Kane County recently produced the 2020 Kane County Transportation Plan. While this plan contains a bicycle and pedestrian component, it does not contain specific recommendations to increase infrastructure in a systematic method. The Kane County Division of Transportation (KDOT) recognizes the need to plan for bicycle and pedestrian facilities as both a transportation mode and a recreational amenity in a county experiencing high levels of development to guide county-wide facility development.
